I remember when I was a young girl I always thought that your friends would stay your friends no matter what. Even if the road got to the crossroads and it would be better to leave your friends, mine would stay with me and I would stay with them. However what they don't tell you when you are young is that you have not been exposed to all of the different types of people that are out in the world that you will be exposed to when you get to be an adult. I have always been the friend to help and listen and take a friends side when they are clearly in the wrong, because I felt that is what a good friend should do and must do. However as I am now the age of twenty-five I understand that in order to establish a zin and a balance within myself I can no longer be that friend. No longer can I be friends with other individuals that represent a character and moral that differ drastically from my own, because the longer I stay friends with them, the longer I will be unhappy because I know that their actions and words are reflecting something that I do not want to be a part of.

It took me becoming friends with people within a program that I am a part of to realize that it is okay for me to cut ties and turn over a new leaf with friends that bring me down instead of making me a stronger and better person in this life. Friends that after a rough two years made me feel like I did not belong, finally got out of my life because I made them. I no longer allowed them to fill my life and myself with toxic energy that they carry along with them everywhere they go and pass on to everyone they come into contact with. Now it is hard for me to loose friends but without the toxic ones I have begun to realize what I want in my friends and how I want to learn and grow from them instead of feeling like I am inferior to them. Living my life the way I wish to.

If you want to be friends with everyone and make friends with people, don't be afraid to do so because being around people that differ from you allows you to see yourself and the world in a different light. However don't forget that if you feel it is doing you worse than better, turn over a new leaf and continue to walk forward on your journey through life.
